Description

You will start the trip from Cluj and start the journey with a walk around Alba Iulia Citadel, where our guides will immerse you into a place where history goes back 2,000 years to the time when the Roman Empire conquered the Dacian Kingdom!

And you will discover the most exciting stories of this spectacular citadel: its star shape history, the Roman castrum, the medieval fortification and the power of the defense moat surrounding the fortress (which now constitutes a dendrological park thanks to the over 70 species of plants and shrubs growing there), the royal happenings and you will also see the prison cells of our heroic figures, Horea, Cloșca and Crișan who were executed on a breaking wheel for leading a revolt.

It sounds like a lot, but long story short, here's what we will do in the largest (and most spectacular) citadel in Romania. 👇

🚴‍ Have some fun with the bikes or electric scooters and discover the history of Alba Iulia since the Roman Empire up to modern Romania.

🏰 See all the amazing citadel gates (with different architecture and roles)

👑 Visit the Coronation Cathedral & St. Michael’s Cathedral

🏛 Visit the National Union Museum (as in, a military casino that suffered significant changes and this was where the Union between Transylvania and Romania was voted, signed and proclaimed on December 1st, 1918 - so, this is were Romania as you know it now was actually born)

💂‍Watch the “Changing the Guard” ceremony (hopefully)

After all these hours we will all feel a bit tired and quite hungry, so we will definitely have your back with a perfect lunch around the citadel!

The next stop will be the Corvin Castle to see where Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned for several years! This is one of the most impressive & iconic castles that we know of: a gothic architectural appearance of 7000 sqm where Vlad the Impaler was imprisoned for several years - The Corvin's Castle.

After leaving the scary (but stunning) castle behind and have dinner and spend the night in Hunedoara and in the 2nd day you will head to Deva fortress.

This is not your typical medieval fortress, but the fortress that guarded the entry to Transylvania from the Mures Valley!

Located on an extinct volcanic cone and with a strategic position, it has a rich history: at first, it had a military role and, over time, it has been ruled by princes and duchesses. It was both used a defense location, but as a luxury house with private dwelling too. It was given as a gift, sold, bombed, and so it became one of the most important fortresses in Transylvania that dates back to the 13th century.

After these charming fortress and castle, you will head to Sibiu, the most romantic city in Romania!

You will enjoy a walk through the idyllic city and learn more about its history and lifestyle, have a local lunch, meet the locals and head to the heart of Transylvania to spend the night: Brașov! The city is surrounded by mountains and is a harmonious mash-up of traditional charm and modern city life. Our guide will show you the towers that used to guard and defend the city, will squeeze down Strada Sforii, the narrowest street in Europe will show you the birthplace of the national anthem of Romania and will make sure you will enjoy a tasty & traditional dinner.

In the 3rd day, you will be guided to what is known as the deliciously ominous Dracula’s Castle - We can't promise you any vampire encounters or howling wolves, but you never know!

The entire tour will be guided, and you will learn everything about the legend and its tales, about the Vlad the Impaler and its weird habits, you will go all around the castle, and you will know it inside out.

Then you will head to Rupea Citadel, one of the oldest archaeological sites in Romania that was built on the ruins of a former Dacian defence fort conquered by the Romans. The Citadel is known from 1324 when the Saxons revolted against King Charles I of Hungary and took refuge inside the citadel, and in the 14th century, it had a key strategic role, being the main linking point between Transylvania, Moldavia and Wallachia.

And after so many facts and legends from Rupea,  we will head for a cozy and traditional dinner and stroll in Sighisoara - quite a small city in Transylvania with cobbled streets, colorful buildings, fairy-tale-like fortified and with contemporary activities and happy locals.

The city has a history dating back to the 1100s and has a lot of storied regarding Saxons, kings, German craftsmen and artisans and everything in between. All these transformed Sighișoara in a UNESCO World Heritage site.

You will be guided through the city, see Vlad Dracul's (Vlad the Impaler's) birthplace, the favorite places in the town of Prince Charles and spend the rest of the day like a local with our Transylvanian guides in Sighișoara before the drop-off in Cluj Napoca.
